The Tengboche Monastery is the oldest monastery in the Khumbu and holds great spiritual significance for the local Sherpa community. Every year the monastery hosts a the three day Mani-Rimdu festival, the most important ceremony in the upper Khumbu. The festival takes place during the last week of November and is inaugurated with a mask dance performed by the monks and lamas of Tengboche. Stopping off to enjoy this festival on the way to the southern base camp of Mt. Everest is a great way to add a mesmerising cultural experience to your adventure.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel (1300 m/4265 ft)
Day 02: Kathmandu Valley sightseeing in the UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Day 03: Fly (30 min) to Lukla (2840 m/9317 ft) and trek to Phaking (2610 m/8562 ft) or Monjo
Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 m/11286 ft)
Day 05: Rest and acclimatisation day at Namche. Explore surroundings.
Day 06: Trek to Tengboche (3860 m/12665 ft) About 5 hours walk. Stay overnight in lodge.
Day 07: Explore Tengboche Monastery, watch Mani Rimdu Festival. Stay overnight at lodge.
Day 08: Explore Tengboche Monastery, Watch Mani Rimdu Festival. Stay overnight at lodge.
Day 09: Trek to Namche, 5/6 hours walk. Stay overnight at lodge. (option: trek to EBC)
Day 10: Trek to Lukla- 2/3 hours walk. Stay overnight at lodge.
Day 11: Fly back to Kathmandu at around 8:30am, flight of 35 minutes.
