Lobuche Peak - 6145m

Destination: Everest Region
Duration : 20 days
Best Season : Mar-May; Oct-Nov

Grade : normal climbing
Max. Altitude : 6145m

Lobuche is another trekking peak that can be combined with the Everest Base Camp trek or other similar treks in the Khumbu area. It is somewhat more technical than Island Peak and the mountain actually consists of two summits, east and west. The east peak (6119 m) is considered a trekking peak and the west (6145 m) an expedition peak, and although they are connected by a continuous ridge, there is some considerable distance between them. The rocky east face of Lobuche forms a dark triangle that rises over the Khumbu Glacier to form the south ridge, appearing as a spectacular skyline. The summit of the east peak can be reached by descending a notch and climbing the steep snow-covered slope towards the top. Usually, the summit ridge is climbed only as far as a subsidiary snow summit, southeast of the true peak; this is known as the false peak. The entire mountain offers a variety of routes and potentially many new ones.
