Ghorepani/Poon Hill Trek is one of the most popular treks in the Annapurna region and a wonderful introduction to trekking in Nepal. Start your journey in the beautiful lakeside town of Pokhara before driving to Nayapul to begin the trek. The trail takes you through the picturesque and stunning agricultural terrain and rhododendron forests of the Annapurna Sanctuary, and gives you the chance to see up close the culture and village life of the Gurungs and Magars, the local people of this area.

At the climax of the trek, from Ghorepani village, you will walk to Poon Hill (3210 m) at sunrise to enjoy one of the most spectacular mountain views on Earth; as the sun touches their snow capped summits, the mighty Annapurna (8091 m) and Dhaulagiri (8167 m), along with a sweep of other himalayan giants, slowly begin to appear like magic before your eyes.

This very popular trek comprises of five days in the Annapurna region, however it can be completed in as little as three days. Options are available for changing routes, and we are happy to offer a tailor made itinerary.

 

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal (1300m/4255ft)

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be received by office representative and transferred to your hotel. The representative will help you to check in and brief you about your trip and other necessary basic information. We will introduce guide and prepare trekking gear; if necessary guide will assist you to buy or rent trekking gear. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2 : Sightseeing and preparation for trek:

Breakfast at hotel and then head off to visit a few popular places such as Swoyambhunath, Bouddhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square. These places are UNESCO world heritage sites. After lunch we will return to hotel and finish preparation of trekking gear and other necessary arrangements. 

Day 3 : Drive or fly to Pokhara (914m/3000ft)

Breakfast at hotel and prepare to drive or fly to Pokhara. If you are driving you will have about 6 hrs drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Driving through hilly roads from Kathmandu side of Trisuli River, lunch will be on the way and in between Manaslu and Lamjung Mountain you will enjoy views of villages, small hills local scenery. Close to arrival in Pokhara, you will be welcomed by views of Mt. Fishtail and Annapurna. After arriving at Pokhara you will check in at hotel, and then an evening excursion around lake side and sunset views at Fewa Lake.

Day 4 : Drive to Nayapul; Trek to Tikedhunga (1577m/5052ft) - 3 hr hike

After breakfast at the hotel, we will begin final preparation before departing for trek. After about 1 hr drive from Pokhara to Nayapul start off point, we will begin walking ahead to Birethati. Trekking entry clearance and TIMS registration will be done here before trekking ahead to Tikedhuna. Lunch will be on the way, then after trekking through Gurung villages and agricultural fields we will stop overnight in lodge at Tikedhunga.

Day 5 : Trek to Ghorepani (2840m/9317ft) - 5.5 hr Hike

Following breakfast at about 8:00am we will start our trek towards Ghorepani. Today we will be climbing stairs to Ulleri, for around 2-3 hrs. We will pass through Gurung villages, forest, and rivers towards Ghorepani. If you are trekking during spring you will see colourful trees and flowers. Afterwards will arrive in Ghorepani, where  you can relax and the weather will be cooler. West from Ghorepani, you can see the Dhaulagiri mountain range. Warm dining inside the lodge, overnight stay in lodge at Gohorepani.

Day 6 : Poon Hill hike (3210m) and trek to Tadapani (2710m/8890ft) - 5 hr hike

You will wake up very early in the morning at least an hour before sunrise and hike to Poon Hill for sunrise view (requiring headlamp). At top of Poon Hill (3210m), there is a view tower to enjoy long range views of various mountains, i.e. Fishtail, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche and others. Afterwards you will descend back to lodge, followed by breakfast, and then prepare to hike to next stop Tadapani. You ascend and descend numerous hills, passing through forest until your next stop arrives. Lunch will be on the way. Tadapani is also a small hill town with several lodges, and a good view point for Fishtail and Annapurna South. Overnight in the lodge at Tadapani.

Day 7 : Trek to Ghandruk (1950m/6400ft) - 3 hr Hike

Followed by breakfast you will begin hike to Ghandruk. Again you will ascend and descend hills within the thick forest. We will likely arrive in Ghandruk for lunch. Ghandruk is a large and popular Gurung village where you can visit Gurung traditional houses and a small museum. You can enjoy beautiful gardens and of course try typical Gurung dishes. You will again enjoy views of the high Himalaya right in front of you. Overnight in the lodge at Ghandruk.

Day 8 : Trek to Nayapul and Drive to Pokhara - 1-3 hr Hike

After breakfast you will begin your last trekking day. You have a choice as to how long you want to walk. Nowdays jeeps are available from near Ghandruk to Nayapul or you can continue to walk, descending from Ghandruk Hill, arriving in Syaulibazar then walking ahead on flat towards Nayapul by the Modi Khola riverside. You will drive from Nayapul to Pokhara, check in at hotel and have time to relax.

Pokhara is a naturally beautiful place, with boating at Fewa Lake, paragliding from Sarangkot hill, zipflyer, and cycling available to enjoy. Lakeside is a popular tourist area so you can enjoy good bars as well.

Day 9 : Drive or fly to Kathmandu

Breakfast at hotel and then prepare to drive or fly (25 min) back to Kathmandu. If you are flying, you will be able to enjoy mountain views untill landing in Kathmandu. You will drive to hotel and check in with time to relax. In evening Real Himalaya will offer farewell dinner at authentic Nepalese restaurant with cultural performance. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 10 : Departure

Breakfast at hotel, leisure time untill flight time. We will meet you at hotel to proceed to airport 3 hrs before your flight time and drive you to the airport departure terminal.
