The Everest Base Camp Trek (EBC) is arguably Nepal’s signature trek. The journey begins with an exhilarating flight to Lukla, who’s airport hangs off the edge of a 2800 m cliff. From Lukla you will trek into the heart of the Sagarmatha National Park, an area of stunning biodiversity and breathtaking beauty. The trail winds through scattered highland villages adorned with Buddhist prayer flags and Mani walls engraved with Buddhist mantras, as well as magnificent forests of rhododendrons, magnolia and furs. The incredible landscapes include views of the world’s most colossal mountains; Everest, Lhotse, Pumori, Makalu, Cho Oyu and Ama Dablam. The trek includes a visit to the sacred Tengboche monastery and a taste of Sherpa culture, who are native to the Khumbu region. The journey ends with the famous glacier walk to Everest Base Camp (5364 m), which lies at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall.

 

Outline Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu airport, transfer to hotel and prepration for trekking (1300 m/4265 ft)

Day 2 : Early morning flight to Lukla (2805 m/9317 ft). Trek to Phakding (2610 m/8562 ft).

Day 3 : Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 m/11286 ft)

Day 4 : Rest day/acclimatise

Day 5 : Trek to Debuche (3820 m/12600 ft) - visit Tyangboche Monastery

Day 6 : Trek to Dingboche (4410 m/14468 ft)

Day 7 : Rest day/acclimatise

Day 8 : Trek to Lobuche (4940 m/16207 ft)

Day 9 : Trek to Gorakshep (5153 m/16906 ft) - hike to Kalapatther (5550 m/18208 ft) - Gorakshep

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu airport, transfer to hotel and preparation for trek (1300 m/4265 ft)

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International airport Real Himalaya representative welcome you with flowers and transfer you to your hotel. After the hotel check in we will introduce trek guide and provide trip briefing. Depending on your flight arrival time, you will have final preparation and shopping for trek.

Day 2 : Early morning flight to Lukla (2805 m/9317 ft). Trek to Phakding (2610 m/8562 ft).

Trek begins with a 35 minutes scenic fight from Kathmandu to the tiny airport at Lukla. You will have time to stroll around, while the guide sorts and prepares the baggage to be carried by porters. We begin our hike from Lukla, guide will manage the lunch place depending upon the time of arrival at Lukla. First day is an easy walk, crossing several bridges over the flowing Dudhkoshi River to Phakding or Monjo village for overnight stop. You will have time to look around the village for local cultural experiences.

Day 3 : Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 m/11286 ft)

After breakfast your second day of the trek will continue up the banks of the Dudh Kosi, crossing the river fives time by suspension bridges until reaching Monjo village, the entrance gate of the Sagarmatha National Park. When entering the National park boundary we descend and a gradual walk brings you to the suspension bridge over the Bhote-Koshi River to Jorsalle village, the last village until Namche Bazaar. Namche is a prosperous trading town and the capital of the Khumbu Region. It is also known as the gateway to Mt. Everest. Overnight at hotel in Namche Bazaar.

Day 4 : Rest day/acclimatisation

We will spend a day in Namche Bazaar for acclimatisation. You will begin your day’s hike after your breakfast. About 10-15 minutes walk from hotel is the top of Namche Bazaar where you will see Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Amadablam, and many more above 6000 m peaks. You can spend about 30 minutes to take pictures and enjoy the view. Afterwards you will continue to hike to Everest View Point hotel in Syanboche (3850 m/12700 ft) for wonderful panoramic views. We will descend for lunch at Namche Bazaar, after lunch you will be taking rest or if it is Saturday you will see many people in the Saturday market, the only shopping market in the surrounding area. You may also visit the Sherpa Museum, a great place to learn about Sherpa culture and the history of mountaineering. Stroll back to hotel for overnight at tea house.

Day 5 : Trek to Debuche (3820 m/12600 ft) - visit Tyangboche Monastry

Today after breakfast we begin our trek with a pleasant walk through the forest of rhododendron and pine trees with magnificent views of snow-capped mountains - Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse , Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kwangde and many more. The trail leads uphill through the forested path to get to Tyangboche, one of the most beautiful places in the Himalaya, home to the Tyangboche monastery (3880 m/12800 ft) which is open for visiting after 3 pm. We then descend about 20 minutes down to Debuche for overnight at tea house.

Day 6 : Trek to Dingboche (4410 m/14468 ft)

After breakfast we begin our trek through rhododendron forest, crossing a bridge over the raging Imja Khol River. We will be able to see musk deer and Himalayan thaar. We will be having lunch at Shomare (4000 m/13200 ft). After lunch we will continue walking by Imja River before reaching Dingboche, crossing a small bridge to Chukung, and farther beyond for the challenging traverses towards Makalu area and Hinku Valley via Sherpani col (6100 m/20130 ft) and Amphu Laptsa pass (5780 m/19074 ft). Overnight tea house.

Day 7 : Rest day/acclimatisation

Today we will hike to Nagatsang-Ri (5000 m/16500 ft), enjoying magnificent views of Lhotse, Makalu,  Amadablam and many more. After 4-5 hours hike we will return to Dinbuche for lunch and free day. Overnight at tea house.

Day 8 : Trek to Lobuche (4940 m/16207 ft)

Today we will begin our trek after breakfast for about 15-20 minutes uphill then flat ground before reaching Thukla for lunch. After lunch after about an hour’s climb you will reach Thukla pass (4800 m/15840 ft), you can see various monuments and world record memorial plates at the pass.  We will be trekking just blew through Khumbu Glacier, continuing along the rugged route to your resort at Loboche. Above the huts looms the famous Lhotse Ridge with sunset views. We will visit the Khumbu Glacier which is ten minutes walk from Lobuche. Overnight at tea house.

Day 9 : Trek to Gorakshep (5153 m/16906 ft) - hike to Kalapatther (5550 m/18208 ft)- Gorakshep

Today we will have very light breakfast and begin our trek quite early to reach Gorekshep, via a windy and rocky path with wonderful views of Mt. Pumori, Khunbutse, Lingtrung, Changtse, Mt. Nuptse and Everest and other magnificent peaks. After several hours walk you will see the huge Khumbu Glacier and ice lake. When we reach Gorakshep, we will check in at lodge & have lunch at tea house. After few hours rest we will go to Kalapatther (2-3 hours climb) to enjoy sunset views and descend to Gorakshep for overnight at tea house.

Day 10 : Hike to Everest base camp (5363 m/17595 ft) to Lobuche or Phereche

After breakfast the adventure continues towards Everest base camp and to the Khumbu ice-fall. The trail passes over rocky dunes, moraine and streams, until you reach base camp. Everest base camp is full of white rocks and snow and you can see the huge Khumbu Glacier. In April/May you will see many tents and expedition teams preparing to ascend Mt. Everest. We return to Gorakshep and descend to Lobuche. Overnight at lodge.

Day 11 : Trek to Debuche (3820 m/12600 ft)

Today's trek is 30 minutes flat and mostly downhill. After crossing small bridge nearly Thukla we change our trail down to Pheriche where we are having lunch. After lunch we will continue the trek to upper Pangbuche (4100 m/13530 ft) where you can visit the monastery and decent down to Debuche for overnight at tea house.   

Day 12 : Trek to Monjo (2775 m/9075 ft) (lunch at Namche)

 After breakfast we climb back up through rhododendron forest to Tengboche. Kwangde, Tawache, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kantega and Thamserku are just a few of the Himalayan giants to be seen. From Tengboche we descend to the bridge over the Dudh Kosi. At Phunki Tenga, see the water driven prayer wheels, before making our way back to Namche for lunch. After lunch we descend about 2 hours down to Monjo for overnight at a lodge.

Day 13 : Trek to Lukla

Our final day's trekking follows the Dudh Kosi down to Lukla, crossing the Dudh Kosi River four times. Overnight at a lodge.

Day 14: Fly to Kathmandu

Pack up early and head for the airport for the flight back to Kathmandu. The rest of the day is at leisure before our celebratory farewell dinner at a restaurant this evening!

Day 15 : Departure

Transfer to the airport from hotel 3 hrs before flight time for the flight home.
